Harvest

The best time of the tapping of gum is November to March and the gum collected must be properly dried. The major problems of Gum Arabic production are: poor quality seeds/seedlings, difficulties associated with its establishment, diseases, pests and drought.

Gum droplets are manually collected in intervals during the dry season from 5 – 25 year- old trees. The first crop is usually done in November – December and second crop (lower in quantity) is carried out in February – March.

The yield varies from 300 gm to several kilograms per tree; depending on weather condition and the age of the tree.
The best way of cleaning is the manual cleaning by hiring expert women using just simple local tools. Gum is graded into four grades

Garde 1 HPS - hand Picked selected
Grade 2 Big sifting
Grade 3 Small sifting
Grade 4 Dust
